Speaking of our awesomesauce members: Q&A time:

1- Avril Shafer Stepowski What do you find the most difficult when writing?

Sarah: When I first started writing and decided to go with science fiction romance because that was what I loved to read, I didn’t think about how hard it would be to create entire new worlds from scratch.  I was really paranoid about world building and the dreaded ‘info dump’. I knew how irritated I got myself as a reader when you start a book and then lose interest when it begins to sound like an alien geography textbook. I was terrified of readers getting bored while I tried to set the scene, which is why my earlier stories are so short. As I’ve gotten more comfortable in my genre I hope that I’ve learned how to be more organic when creating new worlds and species, but I think one of the most difficult things as a writer is keeping the “this isn’t any good” devil on your shoulder from piping up and stalling your muse. It’s such a jerk.

Maia:  There are a couple of things for me.  Finding the time to write can be a real bastard.  As with the others, I work full time, have two kids under 7, a husband who is tolerant, but needs to be shown a little Maia loving *wink wink* on occasion and then I have my reading too.  My TBR list has gotten real big since I started writing.  The other thing are my characters, and in particular the ones whose stories I have yet to tell.  I feel like Ode Mae Brown from Ghost at night, sometimes as my characters try to get my attention.  They aren’t singing Henry the 8th though thankfully ;-)

Elena: Sometimes distractions break my concentration and then I lose my train of thought, like for instances other stories are screaming in my head and I have to jot them down so I don’t forget.  I just have too many things going on in my brain sometimes.

2- Amy Herman-Pall I know the three of you are collaborating on the story you're sharing with us. Is it hard to write with someone else? If you could choose any other author in the world to write with, past, present, or future, who would it be?

Sarah: I was shocked actually how easy it was to write with Elena and Maia, we do have pretty different styles so I expected to have a bit more trouble blending them together. The most difficult part is the time-zone differences. ;-) If I had to pick any other author in the world to write with, I think I would pick Anne Rice. She really was the first author to spark my fascination with the paranormal when I was in school, I love the inclusion of history, fact and lore, in what she writes. She never ceases to peak my curiosity.

Maia:  Not difficult at all!  We do have different writing styles, but they seem to blend really nicely and the fact that we have taken a POV each helps to give each character their own distinct personality.  LOL I agree with Sarah about the time zones, they need to move a little closer hehe.  I would love to collaborate with Nalini Singh or Sophie Oak, ooo oo or Heather Rainer.  That would be too cool.

Elena: I was shocked as well about how easy it was to write with them.  Maia and Sarah are both very talented writers.  I am a fan.  J We sort of fed off each other and the story started to take shape.  And of course we have to thank our Street Teamers for the topics we are working on.  I find that I am really loving this story and it needs to be told.  If I could collaborate with Jane Austin from beyond the grave, that would be a dream come true.

3- Dawn Martin-Smith How did you meet and what made you decide to collaborate?

Sarah: Elena posted looking for other authors to see who would be interested in starting a street team group, and after debating whether it would make me look like a newbie idiot of not, finally commented asking “what’s a street team?”, then I believe Maia chimed in asking the same and we’ve never looked back! (that’s what I remember as the first meeting, did we meet before that?)

Elena: I am pretty sure I interacted with you both at some point, but I am so happy the three of us came together.  Our personalities, though different are very complimentary and I am even happier to call Sarah and Maia my friends.  Feeling mushy!  If had to face aliens, evil shifters and vamps, I’d want those two to have my back.

Maia: I think we may have interacted during an event, but it wasn’t until Elena reached out looking for people to start a street team that the three of us truly connected.  And we haven’t looked back since!

4- Amy Herman-Pall What is the one sex scene you yourselves have written that you'd like to try?

Sarah: Oooo, I’d be all over some menage action.

Maia:  If I could clone my hubby then yep – totally into a little ménage loving!

Elena: All of them of course, but probably my fun with food scene from Three made In Heaven.

5- Avril Shafer Stepowski How old were you when you decided to take the writing plunge?

Sarah: 35

Maia: Shhhh…39.  Only started in January this year – late bloomer ;-)

Elena: Since I learned how to write, that’s all I ever wanted to do.

6- Amy Herman-Pall What's the one thing you want to write, but for whatever reason, haven't yet?

Sarah: I’d love to delve into the BDSM world, but I’m a little on the OCD side and would need to do a lot of research first. Ideally experience it for myself first.

Maia:  MM.  I would really love to write an MM series.  The MMF I am about to release in a couple of weeks was the hottest sex scenes I have ever written!  My editor had this to say: “Sex scenes were hot city. The detail was vivid and sizzled on the page. Really, really good.”  I have plans for an MM series with four books in it, and what is keeping me from it is just finding the time J

Elena: I’d like to write children’s books one day as well.  I love writing erotic romance, so I will have to find a balance for it somewhere down the line.

7- Amy Herman-Pall What's your writing process? Do you plot everything out before you start? Do you start with an idea and then let your characters tell you where you're going from there?

Sarah: I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of writer, I usually wait for a story to begin unfolding in my mind and then just write as it comes to me.

Maia:  I’m crap!  I’m a wing it and see kinda girl.  I tried for the last three books to be organized and started out planning the book on a spread sheet, and had it all worked out – then wrote something completely different!

Elena: For me it’s a combination.  An idea sparks and I immediately have to write it down and then I keep adding to it as I get more and more of the story.  I don’t actually sit down to write it until I have a good direction of where it’s going.  Many times the directions will change as I write and characters take over.  I even get surprised along the way.

8- Julie Ayling Where do you find your inspiration for your characters in your writing?

Sarah: Sometimes it’s hard to know where the inspiration comes from for characters. It could be a photo, or a fantasy, or even just one phrase that sparks an entire personality around it.

Maia: A lot of my characters have personality traits of people I have met.  And what could potentially be an example of my own insanity, my characters are real to me, and as I write they are whispering in my ear.  I get their personality and characteristics directly from them as well.

Elena: A lot of my stories have come from dreams.  Seriously, my brain never shuts off.  I could be dreaming about something that doesn’t make much sense, but when I wake up from the dream, bits and pieces of it have formed an entire novel.  I have several outlines lined up and ready to be written from these instances.  My first published novel, Three Made In Heaven was born this way.

9- John Tucker What's been the most shocking thing you've put in a book???

Sarah: Shocking according to who? ;-) My writing style tends to lean towards graphic, so I imagine my first book being a MFMMMMM was a shock to most of my friends and family. LOL.

Maia:  Nothing in my books has shocked me so far, and probably my readers would say the same thing.  Perhaps the fact that I wrote a prophecy in my Shifters of Freedom Springs series that rhymed would probably shock the hell out of my old English teacher!  Not to mention the Pagan spells and rituals I made up for books three and four of that series.

Elena: I agree with Sarah about the according to who part.  We are erotic romance writers.  I write a lot of ménage, which I guess is shocking for people who don’t read the genre.  Maybe because I love reading it so much that nothing I write is really shocking to me.  I just want to continue thinking up more hot ways to write a love scene.  ;)

10- Julie Ayling Have you ever secretly written someone into a book to get a little revenge on?

Sarah:….not yet.

Maia:  Hadn’t thought of that…. hmmmm

Elena:  I wanted to.  There was an ex-boyfriend I thought about writing in, where he falls overboard on a cruise and gets eaten by sharks, but nah, I didn’t.

And now for some questions for our fabulous host, John Tucker:

1-      John, you are such an amazing host.  You run your events like a well oiled machine.  Can you tell us a little about your very first hosting experience and what made you decide you wanted to throw your wild and crazy events?

My first big event was called 'Dreams, Fantasies, Nightmares, and Visions and included several author friends over 5 days. Like with all my events I created a planning room to get all our ducks in a row. The party itself only had one hiccup but ran extremely well. Since all the authors reported many new followers, page likes, and book purchases, I decided to keep busy creating new events. While the last 4 events have been confined to Erotica, I'm looking to include more genres in the future.

2-      What would you like to see/do in one of your events that has not yet been done?

I'd like to see Facebook ignore any complaints about nudity in a 'Private' Erotca event and allow my authors and attendees to celebrate the human body!  There are limits of course, but classy pictures of beautiful people should not be censored

3-      You are not just a host, you are also an erotica writer.  When and why did you choose to start writing this genre?

I wrote my first erotica – Twelve Doors to Ecstasy – as a bet with a fellow author. Surprisingly, at least to me, it became my bestselling effort. Since then I've published 2 more – Two Days to Passion and Vergene (Revenge.Twisted) and I'm currently working on a paranormal romance.

4-      Can you tell us a little about you current release/wip?

Violetta's Voyeur is a paranormal romance with a mysterious man interacting with a sexually hot woman who has a cold mentality about relationships.

5-      Do you have any kinks/fetishes?

Me??!! I'm pretty vanilla when it comes to sex but, with the right woman, wouldn't hesitate to explore my boundaries. I do like role-playing where some of my latent kinkiness does come out at times.

6- Do you have any particular things you need before you start to write?

Gotta have peace and quiet, hard candies and Dr. Pepper.

7-      If you had to choose one male super hero and one female super hero to have a menage with, who would it be and why?

Nice Question!! I've always been enamored with the Scarlet Witch of the Avengers group. The male would be anyone the lady wants.

8-      What type of story would you like to tell that you haven’t written yet?

Coincidentally, I had a dream last night about a man thrust into a strange situation. It has several cultural elements, plenty of drama, and should be an unrelenting view of forced contrition. I can't wait to start it.

9-      Build your ideal woman using five female celebrities.

Hmmmmm. I'll have to use professionals for this question, rather than celebrities. (Porn Stars).  Head – Abigail Johnson. Torso – Ava Addams.  Trunk – Remy LaCroix. Legs – Staci Silverstone. Attitude/Temperament – Chastity Lynn.

10-      Which male celebrities would you love to have a bromance with?

As I've stated in the past Ryan Reynolds and I've added Nathan Fillion.

11-      What is your next big hosting event?

Damn, That's Hot Erotica 4 is definitely scheduled for January. I'm also working with Elle Klass on a Thriller/Mystery Event for Nov/Dec.

Maia Dylan

Author Bio:
Maia Dylan lives, loves and works in beautiful New Zealand.  She married her best friend and they have two adorable, but stubborn children who obviously take after their father.
Maia’s career has featured a lot of travel, and she has filled her time at airports and in the air with books, books and more books.  Her love of erotic paranormal romance has seen her amass a huge library.  She has been an avid reader and lover of ménage romances since she read her first book in this genre about three years ago.
In January of this year, Maia submitted her first ever manuscript to Siren Publishing.  She wasn’t at all confident that it would be accepted and in fact she was expecting a nicely worded email with a resounding no!  Much to her surprise less than two weeks later she had an acceptance and a signed contract in hand.  Since then she hasn’t looked back and currently has three books in her Grey River series set for publication.
Outside of writing, Maia loves to eat, so she loves to cook!  Her herb garden is legendary, but she still has issues getting tomatoes to grow.  She’s been a performer for years, and has even sung on international stages, she would love to own a classic Ford Mustang one day and of course have the opportunity to race it on a race track without fear of a speeding ticket.
Although ultimately her dream is to be able to write full time on a sandy beach with a Mai Tai at hand, she is quite happy to fit her writing in when she can.  As long as someone reads her books, gets a laugh and maybe come to love her characters and much as she does, then she feels that she is living her dreams no matter what!

About Sarah:
I live in British Columbia, Canada; I have all my life. I went to culinary school and studied Pastry Arts, working as a Pastry Chef in Vancouver for five years. But the commute into the city got to me and I had to change careers back to an office. I still work full time; I now work for a sporting goods wholesaler in accounting…which is where my twitchy creative side began to get restless…and as my Baba used to say, “Idle hands are the Devils playthings.” Or in my case, idle hands get me into all sorts of trouble; so I go a little bananas on the hobby side of things. I still love to cook and bake, I do a large amount of recipe creating and the boys at work certainly appreciate being sacrificed as taste testers. I am also a stress knitter, to the point that I had to open my own Etsy shop to unload some of the scarves I make. Realistically there’re only so many scarves a gal can make and keep for herself before people start to judge you…. I also paint when the muse hits me, mostly abstract in acrylics. I love to garden and grow things, have a weakness for all animals, and an un-natural obsession for making jam. I literally made 24 different kinds of jam last summer, it’s a bit of a problem….but there’s just so many different kinds you can create! Who am I to say no to see what Tiger’s Blood jam would taste like? (it’s strawberry, watermelon and coconut by the way….and it was AMAZEBALLS.)
I’ve always had a love of reading, science fiction and paranormal genres have always fascinated me, so once I found myself addicted to romance novels it really only made sense that the sci fi romance genre drew me like a moth to a flame. I only started writing about a year ago, it took me a long time to get Sarah’s Crew to the point where I would let someone else read what I was writing, let alone send it into a publisher. But eventually I did and after one fairly nice rejection I moved on and found Siren. I’ve been so impressed at how supportive and helpful all the other Siren authors have been through this entire process, I’m a little on the shy side so the social media and marketing part of the writing process has been intimidating to say the least. My goal is to keep working on my writing skills and to hopefully improve with each book, and I hope that anyone who reads them enjoys the world that I’m trying to create!
