GUEST BLOGGER MOIRA CALLAHAN WITH THE BASS

Please welcome my guest blogger today, Moira Callahan with THE BASS.

11 Nov 13th - TheBassLV2 BLURB: Living Victorious, 2

Cateline Lyon has never forgotten the boy she gave her heart to. When they have a chance to reconnect she takes the opportunity. No matter the challenges that may come from his fame, she won’t let him get away again.

Shade Benson always turns to music for comfort. It's his way of expressing the emotions he never could talk about. Having Cateline back in his life, crazy though it may be, he feels the beginnings of a song lighting up his soul. All for her.

EXCERPT: When he lowered his face toward hers, Cat grabbed onto his waist until she found the belt loops, and could hook her fingers through them. She had a feeling she was going to need an anchor. His lips brushed gently to hers, causing her breath to catch in her throat. Letting it out in a rush, she barely had time to suck in another lungful before he took her mouth.

Moaning, she let her lids drift down. One hand at a time, she moved them to hook around his neck until she was practically hanging off him. Not that he apparently minded if the growl he let loose was anything to go by. His hands tightened on her ass, and then he lifted. Knowing what he wanted, Cat jumped to wrap her legs around his waist.

Shade began to move, but wherever he was taking her, she didn’t care. Winding her arms around his neck, she broke the kiss to suck in some air. It was only a moment he gave her before taking her mouth again as he hit the stairs.

Cat rocked her hips against him and the seam at her crotch rubbed to his prominent erection. When Shade tore his mouth from hers to curse, Cateline pressed her mouth to his neck and grinned. She gave the tendon in his neck a little bite, and ground against his cock again.

Another curse sounded he stumbled up the last couple steps. She soon found her back pressed to the wall with his body pressing tighter to hers. Cat pushed her hands into his hair, and lifted her face to kiss him again. “Shade,” she said. Then she let out a moan against his mouth. “Need you, now.”

He must have agreed because his hands landed on her ass, and she felt them moving again. Tightening her hold on his hair, Cateline brushed kisses all over his face. The door slamming shut warned her they were finally in his bedroom. Which meant the bed was close.

Something she soon found herself bouncing on with a shriek when he tossed her. Pressing her hand to the mattress, she sat up quickly to face him. Whatever she’d been about to say was lost when her brain scrambled upon seeing him starting to strip down.

Her mouth actually went dry when he pulled the shirt over his head to bare his torso. She’d laid against that chest last night, but hadn’t seen it. This morning she sadly hadn’t been paying attention. Scrambling for the edge, Cat knelt down as close as she could get and pressed her hands to his skin. Her fingers brushed over the tattoo on his chest. Sucking in a sharp breath, she felt tears welling up at the tiny furry kitten curled up wearing a collar bearing her name on the tag.

“Shade.” Somehow she managed to force his name out around the emotional lump residing in her throat. His hand came down over hers to flatten her palm to his flesh.

AUTHOR BIO: Moira Callahan is a Canadian born and raised author. She loves to write, and only has a few select criteria that have to be in each of her books. A great story, steamy romance, and a HEA ending. The sub-genre isn’t as important to her as making whatever she writes feel real, and in the moment to her readers. To that end she insists her characters be as real as everyday folks, even if they are blessed with a little fictional fairy dust to make them anyone’s personal fantasy. They must have faults, they must have a weakness, and they must have soul. To that end she writes her characters with a mixture of traits – a dash from herself, and something borrowed from a friend. This way the character is as perfectly imperfect as any other person on the planet.

GUEST BLOGGER ALLYSON YOUNG WITH INSURMOUNTABLE

Please welcome my guest blogger today, Allyson Young with INSURMOUNTABLE.

Thank you for having me today and sharing my new release with your readers! Insurmountable, an erotic suspense, releases November 23, 2015 from Evernight Publishing.

Blurb:
Kidnapped because of her father’s wrongdoings, Bianca Fontaine is interrogated for any hint of his whereabouts by a man she has no reason to be drawn to. Who falls for their kidnapper? Especially an arrogant, hard man who is bound by duty—with those intriguing soft and caring qualities he hates to show. She’s learned the truth about her mother’s disappearance and her reality is suspect, except for the one constant—Ellis Valiant.

Ellis Valiant is indeed a hard man, but he’s already destroyed Bianca’s world and could make it worse if he doesn’t send her away. But when he finds her exploring her submissive side in the sex club fronting for his organization, his noble efforts fall by the wayside and he steps up as her Dom. Except Ellis harbors a secret, an insurmountable one, and Bianca will surely hate him when it comes to light.

Excerpt:
Pushing her into the back seat of the closest SUV, his big hand on the crown of her head, between it and the door frame, invader number one climbed in beside her. The man who said she was worthless as a hostage got in behind the wheel. Scrambling across the leather surface, Bianca huddled against the door, wondering if she might throw herself out and make a run for it. But where? There was no ally in the traitor Mrs. Doucette and they’d probably shoot Max in retaliation. She prayed the housekeeper would care for her dog as she promised. The older woman had never been anything but kind to him, but then she’d been kind to Bianca too. Bianca chewed the inside of her cheek. Maybe her father would get Max back when he ransomed or came for her. She had to hold onto some kind of hope of rescue, maybe before things happened to her. Anybody with money at her schools was versed in possible kidnappings, and the lurid tales left a vile taste in the back of her throat.
The man beside her pulled off his hood, running his fingers through flattened hair. Bianca stared. She knew she was staring, but was incapable of doing anything about it. It was like looking at a carefully sculpted face of a Roman god. High cheekbones, deeply set golden eyes framed by a thicket of black lashes under dark brows, incongruous with the thick blond hair curling to his collar, and a chiseled set of lips. The door shut, plunging the vehicle into relative darkness as its light extinguished and deprived her of that rock star visage. Of a killer.
“Fuck, man. You let her see your face!”
His deep voice retorted, “It’s not like Fontaine doesn’t know who crashed his party, Dave.”
Over the grind of the ignition she heard the driver mutter, “And it’s not like she’s ever going home.” A shadow of fabric passed in front of the muted lights from the dash instruments for a moment as he too pulled off his mask, tossing it aside. Her chances of surviving this just narrowed from fifty to zero percent, and she desperately needed to pee.
They drove in silence, the other vehicles falling in behind to form a convoy as they bumped through the ruined gates and gained the main road. Aside from their initial comments, neither man spoke, and she too remained silent. Her thoughts clamored to be heard but she couldn’t put them in any real semblance of order. Kidnapped. Check. They were going to make her talk about her father. Check. They planned to try to ransom her. Check. Except they didn’t think that would prove fruitful. Wouldn’t her father move heaven and earth to get her back? Except he wasn’t a family-first kind of guy … she didn’t want to understand the inference but accepted it was huge. Nightmare. Check. She concentrated on her breathing and drew on her reserves when she really wanted to scream the roof down.
“What’s with her, Ellis?” The driver finally spoke up. “She hasn’t said boo since she gave up the old man. Must be her father’s daughter, eh?”
Feeling his eyes boring into her, she turned inward. Ellis. An unusual name. Had she heard it before?
“Plenty of time to talk later, Dave. You hear of shock?” Ellis spoke quietly.
“Maybe,” answered Dave. “Most women would be crying and carrying on though. Can’t say I don’t like her reaction. Easier to put up with. Although there’s a ball gag in the dash.”
Ball gag? She bit her lip and swallowed convulsively, an action so awkward it hurt her throat.
“You plotting, Bianca?”
Despite herself, she jerked when Ellis used her name. Had she really thought they wouldn’t know it? Especially when they seemed well apprised of other things involving her father. A thought right out of the blue struck her with the same impact as a blow to the face might. Did they know where her mother was?
“I expect an answer, little one.” The velvety threat wove through his voice.
She shook her head, not trusting her voice. His hand grasped her upper arm and dragged her closer. His scent overwhelmed her, leather, gun oil and male. “Answer me. Are you plotting?”
“No,” she whispered. She stared into his face, the flood of lighting from the other cars’ headlights giving him a faintly demonic look. Had Mike seen that look in his eyes before this Ellis struck him down?
He released her with a slight smile. “Good. Then I’ll leave you to it. If you try to escape you’ll be punished.”
Easing back, building distance between them, Bianca tried to get her shakes under control. So far he hadn’t hurt her, despite his obvious ability to do so. She decided not to think about what this Ellis meant by punishment, and instead considered what might lay ahead if she cooperated. They seemed professional, like her father’s bodyguards, although surely Mike had taken a stupid risk—and paid for it. She didn’t particularly care for the man, but now tears pricked. His sacrifice had been for naught. She could hope they would treat her like a valuable commodity—until she wasn’t.

Excerpt:
Her head felt packed with puffed cotton and there was a definite thump in her temples. Bianca tried to swallow and the dryness made her grimace. She managed to get her right hand to obey her and cautiously reached to touch her head. It was present and accounted for, and the headache ratcheted up to a drumroll. Lord, she felt horrible and thought she might be sick. As she struggled to rise up on one elbow, the pinch of soreness made her wince, and a few things came back in one breath stealing surge.
“Here.” Ellis’s voice intruded and he leaned in to where she could see him through barely cracked eyelids. He had a glass of water in his hand and her body cried out for the moisture. Then she wondered what else was in it and held back, closing her mouth tightly.
“It’s only water.” He took a sip and offered it again, but she wasn’t touching anything anyone here offered. Ellis stared impassively.
With a start, she remembered the restraints, and realized she was no longer held in place. With nothing to prevent it, she rolled sluggishly away from him, and slipped off the bed, nearly falling, but somehow braced her weight against the mattress. She watched him warily, and aside from the straight line his mouth drew, he remained impassive.
Setting the glass down, he motioned to it and some towels on the nightstand. “I thought you’d want to wipe your face and quench your thirst when you … woke.”
Ah, more euphemisms. She felt her upper lip lift in a sneer and hoped Ellis marked it. Thoughts whirled through her head and she couldn’t grab onto one of them. She then judged the distance to the bathroom and wondered if her wobbly legs would get her there before Ellis intercepted her.
As if reading her mind, he stood. “You’ll be on your ass and I’m not letting you hurt yourself.”
A burble of incongruous laughter erupted from her belly and she tasted bile as she backed away. “You’re such a joke.”
Ellis was on her, that something unfamiliar now flashing across his face, and he scooped her up, déjà vu, only hustled her straight to the toilet. On her knees, Bianca retched, but miraculously everything settled without humiliating her further, and she dragged herself up with Ellis’s help. The chill of the porcelain bowl helped her focus.
“Stubborn wench.”
Flipping the lid down, he sat her on it with a thump, telling her to lean back. He grabbed a towel and wet one end of it. She accepted it and covered her face, willing him to leave. How had she ever thought to best this man at anything? Or shame him, for that matter, in appealing to his conscience. He was made of granite, now any need for the soft sell was over. It might be the aftereffects of the truth drugs, but she once again felt like a child. She knew he was still standing there. She could feel him and smell him, that scent she was beginning to associate with Ellis, like she was his dog or something. A bizarre vision of her in a collar, panting at his feet,
“You need a shower.”
Well, thank you, Captain Obvious. She longed to say that out loud but it might unlock the tenuous hold she had on all the things yearning to spill out—and peel the flesh from Ellis’s very bones. Like that would ever happen. So she bit her tongue, because she’d already called him a joke. Enough said.
“Save me from pretentious twits.” She heard him murmur it, as though he’d gritted his teeth.
A startled yelp escaped as Ellis took two strides and ripped her shirt open. Buttons popped free and pinged off the sparkling surfaces. One ricocheted off her forehead and she blinked. So not like the romance books. Gah, what was in those drugs?
“Get your jeans off unless you want me to do it.”
Scrabbling to pull the sides of her shirt together over her chest, she watched as he worked the taps, opening them wide and adjusting the spray of the shower until he appeared satisfied. The way his brows drew together when he turned to see her still fully dressed made her shiver. She loosened her grip on her shirt and fumbled with the snap on her jeans. It refused to give and her heart leapt into her throat when Ellis, with an impatient grunt, pushed her hands aside and freed it without any problem, tugging the zipper down.
“Up.”
She giggled this time, unable to contain the sound, and felt her eyes go wide at the incongruous sound. Sit. Stay. Down. Good doggie. She managed to stand, once again with help, and Ellis dragged her jeans to her ankles.
“You’re still impaired.”
Thank you, Mr. Observant. Maybe she said that out loud, because he stiffened. But when she dared a look, he was staring at her … panties. His head almost immediately tilted up and he met her gaze. She heard him mutter something about stupidity, and tried to muster up some indignation, but her head throbbed harder and she felt terrible.
Thinking he was trying to hug her, she put her hands between them to push him back, and felt him snap open her bra. She pressed her hands back against the cups and protested. “Don’t.”
“So you’ll talk if your clothes come off. Well, don’t worry about it, sweetheart. There’s nothing left for you to say.” Smirking, Ellis tugged her toward the shower and pushed her inside. “Do you need help?”
“No.” Killing was too good for him. He needed to suffer, and she hoped she found an opportunity to inflict it on him.

Two of my books, UNSHATTERED (Silver Cliff #1) and Three Made in Heaven (Made in Heaven #1) were recently featured in the SINsational Sirens Showcase, a five day Facebook event. I’d like to talk about what I have planned next for these two series. ABOUT AUTHOR Elena Kincaid

A little about me: I was born in Ukraine and raised in New York where I live with my daughter. I have a BFA in Creative writing and I’m also a graphic designer. I started reading and writing at an early age, but even before I learned to read and write down the things that came out of my imagination, I would tell them to my family and friends and entertain them. There may have been other things I wanted to do when I “grew up,” but they were all in conjunction with writing. I knew I always wanted to be a writer and feel so fortunate that I get tot be doing that now. I hope to continue putting out stories that hopefully people will want to read and enjoy.
http://elenakincaid.blogspot.com/

I am currently finishing up with book two in the Made in Heaven series, titled Ocean’s Three. Both books can be read as standalones, however Ocean’s Three delves further into the mythology of the psychic/soul mate connection. Get ready to set sail on a two-week Mediterranean cruise in this one. Fun fact: I actually wrote a portion of this story while I was on a cruise myself. It was so inspiring sitting down with the ocean on one side and a pool on the other sipping coffee and typing away. Another fun fact: I held a contest to name a B*tchy character in this story and came out with two winners actually. Hey, she had to have a friend, right? Watch out for Carlota and Missy. I’d like to have a third book in the series sometime in the future as well. There is definitely more I want to explore.

UNDAMAGED (Silver Cliff #2) will pick up after UNSHATTERED and will be Ruby and Wyatt’s story. I give a few teasers about them in book one. Book 3 will be Carla's story. Be prepared to see an altered Carla in this one. I've been toying with a possible 4th book in the series. It would be Bradley's story. He was introduced in Anna's story, but briefly. We'll be seeing more of him in the next 2 books since he's Ruby and Carla's older brother. Also, he'll be the last of the unmated Kents among the siblings/cousins. See what I did there. wink emoticon But no, it will not be called UNMATED as the object is to get him MATED in the end.

I have two other series I am working on besides these as a well as a few standalones. My brain refuses to shut off, so I need to get all these stories out, therefore will be bouncing around. Follow me on Goodreads and my blog for all of my latest updates and release dates.
Here’s a little more about Three Made in Heaven (Made in Heaven #1)

Blurb: After Anna James loses nearly everyone she loves and is betrayed by those she trusted, she sets out in search of a place that would bring her peace. She knew she had found it when she arrived in a sleepy little town called Silver Cliff and she vows to never trust anyone with her heart again, especially a man she fears would not only break her heart, he'd incinerate it.

He decides to return to his home town to rebuild his life and the last thing he needs is to fall in love with a snarky girl who keeps her past under lock and key. He realizes quickly, though, that she is girl worth risking it all for and vows to make her his.
Their pull was undeniable, like fireworks on top of flaming bonfires. But Anna can't help wonder if she and Nathan are strong enough to survive a past that keeps resurfacing or if fate will keep shattering the world around her.

GUEST BLOGGER N.J YOUNG WITH DOUBLE DOWN

Please welcome my guest blogger today, N.J Young with DOUBLE DOWN.

Thank you for having me on your blog today! I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself to your readers and talk about my new release, Double Down! Double Down is the first title in my Ozark Magic series. In the first book, you will meet many of the interesting characters that live in the lake resort town of Magic, Missouri. Magic is full of love, adventure, super hot guys, and the occasional murder…
Double Down (Ozark Magic, #1)
Izzy Craig might live in a town called Magic, but her life is anything but. After nursing her beloved grandfather, he has passed away, leaving her to manage a busy lake resort and an unrequited crush on the town’s sheriff, Graham Nolan. Things start to look up when Graham’s estranged brother Chris comes to town. If she can’t have one handsome Nolan man, maybe his twin will do.

Graham’s feelings for Izzy have always been complicated . . . and intense. When he realizes that his brother has encroached on his territory, he’s not sure if he can deal. They’ve tried sharing a woman before, and that ended in heartache for everyone. But when Izzy’s sketchy uncle enters the picture, Graham’s cop senses go on high alert. He may very well have to trust his brother, Izzy, and himself, if he wants to keep the woman he loves safe.

Excerpt

Her soft lips pressed against his mouth, causing Graham’s eyes to widen in surprise. He’d sensed her unease, so her sudden aggressiveness took him aback for a moment. She wanted them? Was that what she was saying with this kiss?

Stepping forward, Izzy pressed her body against his and he groaned at the feel of her firm breasts pressed against his chest. When her tongue hesitantly probed through his parted lips, he would have lost control if it weren’t for Chris standing behind her dramatically clearing his throat.

Grasping her shoulders, it took every ounce of strength in Graham to push Izzy away and plant her back on her feet. Her lips were slightly swollen, and her blue eyes had darkened. Before he could catch his breath to speak, a stunned look crossed her pretty face.

“I – I’m sorry. You said this wasn’t the right time. Obviously you don’t want to – I – I shouldn’t have. . .” She trailed off, trying to step away, but both of them reached for her at the same time. Dammit, he hadn’t meant to upset her.

Looking to his brother for help, Graham was relieved when Chris leaned into Izzy without hesitation, easing her worry.

“You have to tell us, baby,” Chris murmured against her ear. “Trust me, we want nothing more than to kiss your pretty lips until your head swims, but you have to tell us what you want first.”

“I don’t want to guess wrong,” Graham agreed, reaching for her hand and entwining his fingers with hers. “It would be easy for us to just take you, toss you on the bed, make you come over and over.” He stepped closer to her as her eyes started to glaze at that statement. “And maybe that’s what you want. Us taking you without you having to actually make the decision.” He brushed her swollen lips with the pad of his finger. “But it doesn’t work that way, sweetheart. You have to tell us what you want.”

“But – but – I thought you liked to dominate.” Damn, that low, breathy voice did things to him.

He had to bite back a groan. The thought of dominating Izzy, tying her up, spanking that pretty round ass caused him to harden to the point of pain. “Baby, I need to know that you want us – together – as much as we want you. We need your consent, Iz. And once you do consent, you should know that we won’t go easy on you.”

Her jaw dropped open a bit as her eyes dilated, and Graham grinned as she tried to figure out what he meant. Behind her, Chris gave him a sly smile.

“I – I —” she stammered, and then bit her lip and took a shaky breath.

“Deep breath, sweetheart,” Chris crooned, his lips finding her ear again. Graham shot him a warning look. If he didn’t quit kissing her, she wasn’t going to be able to form a thought, much less words.

"I – I want you.” Her breathy voice was barely audible, and he stepped close enough to press himself against her, sandwiching her in between himself and Chris.

Taking another long shaky breath, she tried again. “I want both of you – to – to make love to me.” The way her milky skin flushed led Graham to believe that she’d never actually said that to a man before, never asked for what she wanted.

Her words empowered him. She wanted them. She was theirs. He leaned forward to take her lips, cupping her face in his large hands so he could tilt her head how he wanted. His tongue traced the line of her lips until they parted, allowing him access. He swallowed her light whimper as his tongue delved deeper. And she kissed him back. Oh how she kissed him back. When her hands clutched at his arms, he eased back, gently nipping her bottom lip.

“Chris,” Graham spoke to his brother without looking away from Izzy. “Undress her. I want her naked.”

Her breath caught in her throat, and she jerked her head back to look at Chris who smiled wickedly. “With pleasure.”

As Graham backed up to allow his brother room, Chris walked around to stand in front of Izzy. He jokingly rolled his eyes at Graham. “He can be a little bossy,” he said to her with a wink.

Graham watched as his brother ran his hands lightly down her arms, before lifting her arms over her head. He quickly stripped off her black blouse before tugging off the khaki pants she wore.

When Chris stepped back, he darted a glance at his twin, and Graham could see that his eyes were as molten as he felt inside.

Izzy stood before both of them in only her black bra and panties, looking from one man to the other as their steel gazes swept up and down her body, ravenously consuming every inch of her.

When a shiver went through her, Graham reached out to envelop her in his arms. “Are we making you nervous, sweetheart?”

She shook her head, a little smile playing at her mouth.

Chris reached out, needing to touch her, and Graham passed her off to his brother. “Are you sure? I know we can be a little overwhelming.”

“I’m sure,” she said, smiling at their concern. “Very sure. I need you. Both of you. I want you both so much, so badly. I just . . .” She stumbled. “I um —”

“What, baby? What’s wrong?” Graham asked. When her gaze slid away, he lifted her chin up. “Look at me, Iz. What’s wrong? You need to be honest with us or I will smack that pretty ass right now.”

The brief flaring of her eyes told Graham she would enjoy a spanking, his hand pounding her ass. Now, there was some fun they could have later.

When the ghosts appear, she and Lucas must work together—in tight quarters—to convince the resident ghosts to move on before a storm strands the entire crew on the island. Can Arabella put aside her prejudices long enough to see what the ghosts are trying to tell her? And if she does, will she and Lucas have a shot at a lifetime?

Book Excerpt:

Hands on her hips, Arabella Pierce stood scowling at her boss. “I cannot believe you’re making me do this.”
Folger Dade expressed nothing but patience as he leaned forward in his chair and rested his forearms on his small mahogany desk––his normal position when the two of them were headed into an argument. “It’s a business decision that had to be made. I regret doing this to you on short notice, but this is how it is.”
She sat down in the comfy blue wingback chair facing the desk. “I am a paranormal investigator. I see dead people, for goodness sake! And you want me to deal with this, this—”
“Reporter. He’s a reporter for Debunker Media, and he wants to follow you on an investigation, as part of his series of web articles on psychics and ghosts.”
“And you thought it was a good idea to hinder me like that? Don’t you remember what happened with the last two skeptics you had hunt with us?” The memory made her blood boil. Skeptics weren’t meant to go on serious investigations—she’d learned that at an early age.
Sure, organizations like Debunker Media were necessary, to help arm the public against frauds and cheats. Unfortunately, there were plenty of people who were not gifted but wanted to be, as well as quite a few fraudsters out to steal people’s money. Not to mention many individuals who enjoyed making fun of people like her.
She pursed her lips and sat silent as Folger sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Arabella knew she was the only investigator to give him so much grief in all his long years in the business—she was certain she was responsible for the majority of gray hair on his head. But he put up with it from her for a reason, and that was because she was one of his two best mediums.
He dropped his hand and met her eyes. “It’s good press, and it’s one week with a reporter. One week that could boost our caseload and bring in more money so we can continue to do those cases for free. Please, don’t fight me on this one.”
She looked away from his light gray eyes. Revenant Investigations—based in Noble, Maine—did all of their cases for free, getting their money instead from fundraising and private donations. Folger worked very hard to keep it that way. He had always been like a father to her, and she didn’t want to fight with him. Yet she didn’t want a so-called “reporter” hampering her investigation, either.
“Does he know the rules?” she asked, resignation in her tone.
“Yes,” he said with a sigh, and a healthy dose of relief. “And I also informed him of the other skeptics I’ve allowed on hunts, and what I’ll do if he gives you that kind of grief.”
Yeah, doesn’t make up for sending this one along. “And what investigation are we doing? You didn’t say.”
Kingston Cottage.”
Arabella stared at him, shocked. “Are you serious?”
He nodded. “The owners contacted me last week, and informed me they need to sell the house as soon as possible. They want to put it on the market this month, due to personal reasons. In order to do that they need to know what’s inside and how to get rid of it.”
“No one has ever been allowed to investigate it…” she trailed off in awe.
            Folger smiled. “Until now.”
She couldn’t help but return his smile. The feeling of a fresh, no-one-else-has-done-it hunt was too much of a thrill to pass up. Historic Kingston Cottage was located on a small island, all by itself, and had been rumored to be haunted since before Arabella was born. She had seen pictures and taken boat rides past the island, but she’d never set foot on the private property.
“When do we have to be at the docks?” she inquired as she stood, grabbing her coat off the back of the chair.
“Seven o’clock tomorrow morning. Don’t be late. Dustin is taking you over. But, Arabella—” She looked at him, knowing that tone. “It’s just going to be you, the reporter, Nick, and Lena. I need the rest of the crew on a different hunt.”
She paused at the door. Nick was one of their tech guys, and Lena was a lead investigator, like Arabella. Five more investigators rounded off the team. But the more she thought about Folger’s decision to use a small crew, the more it made sense, especially within the limited space of the cottage. “Nick and Lena,” she began, “do they know about the … ‘reporter’?”
Folger rolled his eyes, clearly hearing the quotation marks in her tone.
“Yes. I asked them not to speak of it until I talked to you myself. I think that was best, don’t you?”
Arabella chose to ignore the rolling eyes. “And the reporter?”
“He’ll be there at seven sharp as well. His name’s Lucas Brown, and he’s a serious reporter.”
She nodded slowly, not really believing him. “I’ll check in when we get there.”
“Please do, and be sure to pack extra clothes. You know how storms brew up suddenly here. I don’t want you all stranded without necessities. The owners left you some food. Expect to be on the island at least three days, maybe four. Oh, and there’s also a generator in the basement if you lose power.”
“Good to know, and it was nice of them to leave some food.”
            “Yes. They’re good people.”
She found it a bit strange that the crew wasn’t going to meet the owners before the investigation, and stranger still that she had never met them. Noble was a small town along the central Maine coast—it was pretty rare not to put a name to a face.
“Arabella,” Folger called as she left his office. “Try not to push him into the bay.”

GUEST BLOGGER LUCY FELTHOUSE WITH TESTING TOM

Please welcome my guest blogger today, Lucy Felthouse with TESTING TOM.

Blurb:
When Katrina’s ex, Tom, turns up on her doorstep, he’s literally the last person she was expecting to see. After dumping her and running off with a vanilla chick, Tom broke the Domme’s heart and left her seriously hurting. So when he returns, begging for another chance, Katrina is understandably very confused and protective of her bruised feelings. She finds it very difficult to believe that he’s turned his back on a vanilla lifestyle for good and wants to be with her, a professional dominatrix. Rather than letting her head or her heart figure out what to do, whether to forgive him, she decides to put Tom through a series of challenges that will prove his devotion to her—or not. Testing Tom is not something she’d ever expected she’d have to do, but to her, it’s the only way she can be sure whether he’s back for good.
This is a previously published work. It has been edited for Evernight Publishing.

Excerpt:
Katrina was halfway through an episode of her favorite drama series when her doorbell rang. She jumped, gasping as her heart lurched painfully, then pressed ‘pause’ on the remote control. Wincing slightly as she unfolded her legs from beneath her bottom—she’d been watching the program back-to-back for a couple of hours and she was stiff—she moved to the window and peered out through a gap in the curtains, careful not to let the mystery visitor see her, should she need to ignore them. Cold callers were common in her area, and drove her crazy. If she wanted to buy something, she’d contact them, not the other way around.
As it happened, it wasn’t a salesperson. She ducked back from the window, clenched her hands into fists.
“What the fuck is he doing here?”
He was literally the last person she’d expected to see standing at her door. Prince William or George Clooney would have been less of a shock.
For there, outside her house, stood the man that had broken her heart several months ago. Thomas Black. She hadn’t seen hide nor hair of him since, and now, totally out of the blue, he’d turned up.
Katrina contemplated ignoring him, going back to her show and pretending she wasn’t in. But apparently that wasn’t an option.
“I know you’re there, Katrina,” he yelled through the letterbox, “your car is on the drive, and I can see the glow of the telly through the curtains.”
Katrina decided it was time to get thicker curtains. Not wanting to cause a scene, which her nosey neighbors would no doubt adore, she moved to the front door, unlocked it and flung it open.
“Get in,” she said, quickly closing the door behind him, then turning to face her unwanted visitor. “What the hell do you want?”
He held his hands up in supplication, then spoke. “Look, I know I’m probably the last person you expected to see—wanted to see—but I have to talk to you. Please?”
He adopted the puppy-dog look he’d long-since perfected. Katrina sighed.
“You’ve got five minutes. Sit down.”
They moved over to the sitting area, and Katrina deliberately sat in the chair, so Tom couldn’t sit next to her. Settling onto the end of the sofa nearest to her, he clasped his hands together, presumably to summon his courage, and began.
“Kat, I’m here to say I’m sorry, all right? I was wrong, so wrong, to finish with you the way I did and go off with Alicia.”
“She dumped you, has she?” Katrina clenched her teeth, and felt the rage beginning to build inside her. If Tom thought he could come running back to her because his bimbo had ditched him, then he had another think coming.
“No,” he said firmly, and, she suspected, honestly. “I finished with her, actually. When I realized that I wasn’t happy with her. She never made me feel the way you do, Kat. Not once. And I know, I know it’s my fault. I wanted something… different from what we had, or at least I thought I did. I couldn’t help thinking at the time that what we did was wrong, was weird. Abnormal, even. So when Alicia started flirting with me at work, I started thinking perhaps I should try for something normal. Like everybody else out there.”
He fixed her with his soulful gaze, and continued. “But I couldn’t have been more wrong. Yes, Alicia offered me normality, a vanilla relationship, but I soon discovered it couldn’t satisfy me. Sure, she could make me come in all the usual ways—”
“Ugh, I don’t want to hear this, Tom. I don’t want to hear about your sex life with someone else!”
“Sorry, Kat. Please, just let me finish?”
When she gave a curt nod, he carried on speaking.
“Alicia could make me come in all the usual ways—I am just a man, after all—but it wasn’t the same. Wasn’t as good. It wasn’t long before I started to miss you, miss what we had together, both in and out of the bedroom. I ignored it for as long as I could, forced myself to make the effort with Alicia, but it just got to the stage where I couldn’t do it anymore. Couldn’t ignore what I was, what I enjoyed, what I needed. And that’s you, Kat. I need you, and everything that goes with you.”
As a Domme, Katrina had become an expert in hiding her feelings, whether she was aroused, angry, happy, sad… it was all stuffed behind a stern facial expression. Now, though, she almost faltered. When Tom had left her, she’d remained cool and silent until the door had slammed. Then she’d broken down. She’d been deeply in love with him, and his decision had left her devastated. Months down the line, her love for him hadn’t faded, not one bit, and the fact that he was here, right now, apparently trying to get her back, was something she’d never expected. She didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or throw something at him.
She didn’t do any of those things. She kept her face straight, her thoughts whizzing through her head at a hundred miles per hour. Eventually, after letting him squirm in his seat for a minute or so, she replied. “So what exactly are you saying, Tom? What do you want?” She knew the answer, but she wanted to make him suffer, the way he had done to her after ditching her for something, someone, that could never satisfy him.
